The article about soap-making and producing your own lye says that commercial lye can be Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide. If you are making your own lye from ash, how can you know if you are producing Potassium Hydroxide rather than Sodium Hydroxide?

Ash can also be used as pozzolan and as insulation.
